The Lion King London: Experience This Musical in West End

One of the musicals that I have always had a crazy desire to see in London was The Lion King and, thanks to a special invitation to celebrate my birthday, I had the opportunity to feel its joy live and in the first person. It was an exciting and intense experience, which I will tell you all about over the following paragraphs.

A Disney classic from the factory of dreams

Who does not recall this classic movie taken from the magic of Disney that left everyone speechless?

Very few people, I think, as the movie of the same name “The Lion King” was such a blockbuster movie in the summer of 1994 when it opened, first in the United States, and shortly after worldwide.

I remember with fondness my favourite character, Simba, the naughty lion-cub that became the main protagonist and superhero next to Nala. We should of course not forget the great characters of the wise expert King Mufasa, the antagonistic and machiavellian Scar, as well like the adorable comedians: Zazu, Timon and Pumbaa, with whom I laughed a lot.

The Lion King since 1997

Due to its spectacular success as a film, in 1997 The Lion King moved to the bright lights of Broadway in New York and became a live theatre musical, mixing attractive animal masks and large puppets to represent the various characters of this beautiful plot.

A spectacular arrival in Europe

Given the resounding success in New York, the arrival in Europe could wait no more, so in October 1999 The Lion King opened at the Lyceum Theatre in the West End of London. Since then, and close to reaching 20 years on stage, the musical still runs to this day in the capital of the United Kingdom with more than 7,500 performances given, a theatrical record that few can attain.

A magical experience in the West End

Several, not to say, a large majority of you know that London is one of my favourite cities in the world, and every time I pass through the West End I feel like I am on my way to see a show. Unfortunately, for one reason or another, Tickets are always sold out quickly, and I often cannot get in to see a show. Therefore, if you have in your plans to see The Lion King or any other show in London, I strongly recommend that you book your tickets in advance.

I always advise to my friends, that a trip to London is not fully complete if a West End musical is not included. That trip to the theatre gives it a special charm.

I remember that at the end of the show I left the theatre more excited than when I entered. I laughed, I cried, I dreamt about the different acts that make up the musical. I also admired the quality of the staging that has care and attention of even the smallest detail: lights, enveloping sounds, costumes, and no less, the acting of the live actors that give life to the characters we know so well from the film.

London itinerary suggestion

To be able to see The Lion King, and although it was an birthday gift, I planned my itinerary well so that my 48 hours in London were fascinating. Since it was the weekend of my birthday celebrations, before going to the Lyceum Theater we went to have dinner in one of the surrounding restaurants at around 5:00 pm, as we chose to attend the 7:30 pm performance. After the musical and to close the night we went to a classic British pub for a couple of pints of beer.
